Hawk-Eye at Melbourne Sports & Aquatics Centre

Swimming Victoria have partnered with Hawk-Eye Innovations on a brand-new collaboration.

Melbourne Sports Centres, home of Swimming Victoria is excited to announce the introduction of Hawk-Eye Innovations tracking technologies into our competition pools. Swimming Victoria have partnered with Hawk-Eye Innovations on a world first swimming video review technology collaboration. Together the two have launched a proof of concept (PoC) of the world’s first Swimming Video Review Technology, for the 2022 swimming season, beginning with the 2022 Victorian Age Long Course Championships which ran from March 10 – 14.

The system at MSAC is made up of nine permanent cameras (four under water and five above water) all feeding back to our onsite review booth. The booth located onsite, has a four-monitor setup, two of which were used to replay and select angles for analysis, whilst the other two displayed ‘always live’ angles of the pool to avoid missing any action. With certain events requiring up to 50 officials, the use of this technology will improve efficiency and automation of officiating and timing in swimming.
