We’re proud to announce that reigning champions Melbourne United have started the 2018/2019 season with a move to their new home here at MSAC. The Victorian National Basketball League (NBL) team have begun training at MSAC, which is home to more than 35 State Sporting Associations and features an 1800 seat show court.
Melbourne United CEO, Vince Crivelli, said it’s an exciting time for the club who have established themselves as a highly competitive force in the league having won the 2017/2018 championship.
“We’re thrilled to call Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre our new home base,” Mr Crivelli said.
“The decision to partner with MSAC is part of our overall goal to continue to grow and develop our membership and foster the increasing popularity of the NBL in Victoria.”
State Sports Centres Trust CEO, Phil Meggs, said as one of the largest sporting and leisure facilities in the southern hemisphere, Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre is well positioned to enable sporting organisations and individuals to reach their full potential.
“At its core, MSAC is a place for people to be excited about sport, to engage in healthy activity, and feel inspired to be their best,” Mr Meggs said.
“Melbourne United have established themselves as a highly skilled and successful team and we look forward to supporting the Club and seeing them benefit from the facilities as well as our advanced purpose-built athlete performance centre.”
The NBL has seen record attendance last season with more than 44,000 fans attending the 2017/2018 Grand Final series. This season has seen success too with Melbourne United sitting second on the ladder having won six of their last seven games.
The best part? You can catch the players at open trainings happening over the course of the season.
